Picture of the day: Crystal Cay Lighthouse, Crystal Cay, Nassau, Bahamas

Today is National Lighthouse Day, first commemorated in 1989 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of “An Act for the Establishment and support of Lighthouse, Beacons, Buoys, and Public Piers.” on August 7th, 1789. And I have search thru some old images, and I found this little lighthouse image from a trip to the Bahamas back in 2009. If I am not mistaken it is the Crystal Cay Lighthouse in Nassau in the Bahamas.

  1. I visted Nassau back in 2000 and took an excursion to Crystal Cay Island. There they had an underwater observatory and of course that adorable light house. I just left Nassau this weekend only to find out to my surprise that the Crystal Cay was badly damaged by hurricanes years ago and has been closed permanently. I am deeply saddened. It was truly a magnificent place, which included a private beach.. Commercialism has taken over much of the island now. I will always have my memories of Crystal Cay.
